MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – The West De Pere Phantoms beat Notre Dame Academy 28-14 Friday to claim the WIAA Division 2 state football championship, winning the all-area rumble.

The two teams are separated by just 7 miles back home, and squared off in a tight tussle downstate.

Offense dominated the first half, but defense decided a championship in the 2nd stanza.

The Phantoms struck first with a Ryat Lutz touchdown run to make it 7-0. But the Tritons punched right back with Kingston Allen’s 56th rushing score of the season, to extend his season record and tie things 7-7.

West De Pere looked to Lutz once more for a 14-7 lead. But while the Phantoms scored on the ground early, QB Patrick Greisen passed for a D2 state title game record 302 yards.

Both offenses continued without a stop as Allen scored his 57th touchdown to then tie things 14-14 later in the first half. Allen rushed for 231 yards, but would leave with an injury in the 4th quarter.

Still before the half, though, Greisen extended his career passing touchdowns record by finding Judeah Kniskern for a 60-yard score to make it 21-14 West De Pere at the half after a goal-line stand by the Phantoms defense just before the break.

The only score of the 2nd half came on a Greisen to Landon Kibble touchdown strike to seal the deal in the 4th quarter, giving West De Pere the 28-14 win.
